Maryland Hatem Bridge

O-PILE® INSTALLED FOR BRIDGE ABUTMENT FORTIFICATION

This project on the Susquehanna River in Havre De Grace, Maryland featured deep underwater rehabilitation and scour protection to the foundation and substructure of the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge.

The Challenge

Install sheet pile under a bridge in 9' sections that would be 131' deep.

Interesting Facts

O-Pile® cofferdams were installed around the piers.  The design utilized various diameter pipe piles ranging from 38” to 72” driven into bedrock with drilled shaft rock sockets to anchor them into the bedrock.

To accommodate the bridge overhead, O-PILE Sections were cut into 9' sections that had to be spiced and driven to make up lengths of up to 131'. Watertight O-Pile® was drilled into the bedrock to ensure the bridge footings could be repaired and last many more decades.

The patented O-Pile® system was 100% melted and manufactured in the USA.
